Description
The 24×36 Light Wood Lean Cabin is an 864 sq ft, 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom single level cabin plan with a single slope roof, pale vertical timber cladding, a triangular clerestory under the high side and a full height glass front, plus a 28 ft sleeping loft open to the living room below. You get a 14 sheet print ready PDF with the main floor plan, the loft plan, all four elevations, section, foundation, roof framing, electrical, plumbing and HVAC sheets, plus a material list, delivered the moment you check out.
- Pale timber keeps the cabin light in heavy tree cover, where dark siding can read as gloomy.
- The triangular clerestory lifts the ceiling line and pushes daylight deep into the plan.
- A low deck at step height, so the living floor and the ground outside read as one level.
- A 28 ft sleeping loft adds a third sleeping place without a second storey.
- A separate laundry room rather than a hallway closet.
- Electrical, plumbing and HVAC sheets are in the set, not sold as extras.

Can I get a building permit with these plans?
In most US jurisdictions these drawings are exactly what your building department will review. What varies is the paperwork around them. Before you buy, call your department and ask four questions:
- Do you require an engineer’s stamp?
- Do you require truss or structural calculations?
- Do you require a site plan showing setbacks?
- Do you require an energy compliance form?
With a glazed front and a clerestory the energy form matters more than usual, because your reviewer will want the glass performance numbers. Your glass supplier provides those. Because you receive the complete PDF set, a local engineer can review and stamp it without redrawing the project.
What will it cost to build?
Contractor built, 864 sq ft at roughly $115 to $250 per square foot.
The clerestory adds glass area but very little framing work.
You hire out the slab, framing, roof and glazing and finish the inside yourself.
Loft framing is included in the shell.
Figures are planning ranges, not quotes. Costs move with your region, site access and the glass specification you choose.
Who this plan is for
A shaded lot
Pale cladding and a clerestory are the pair that keep a cabin bright under heavy tree cover.
Short-term rental
Light timber and a tall glazed front photograph well, and the loft sleeps two more guests.
Downsizing
Everything you use daily is on one level, with the loft kept for visitors.
Owner-builders
A simple rectangle, conventional 2×6 framing and a single slope roof, with the glazing hired out.
Need it changed?
Mirrored, widened, a smaller glass package, a covered deck, a crawlspace or pier foundation, the loft removed, or editable CAD files: tell us what you want and we will quote it, usually within one business day.
What you are buying
Your licence
One purchase lets you build this design once, on one lot. You can print the set as many times as you need for that build. You may not resell, share or redistribute the files.
Delivery
The download link appears on screen and is emailed the moment payment clears. It does not expire. Find a drawing error and we correct the sheet and resend it free.
Questions buyers ask
What is the clerestory for?
It is the triangular band of glass under the high side of the roof. It lifts the ceiling line and brings daylight to the back of the plan, which a window in a side wall alone cannot reach.
What timber is the cladding?
The drawings call for vertical boards and leave the species to you. Pale larch, clear cedar and knotty pine all give this look; your supplier will advise which is stocked locally.
How big is it and how many rooms?
24 feet by 36 feet, 864 square feet on the main floor, plus a 28 foot sleeping loft open to the living space. Two bedrooms, one full bath, a separate laundry room and an open kitchen and living area.
Can I get a building permit with these plans?
In most US jurisdictions these drawings are what the building department reviews. Some counties also want an engineer stamp, truss calculations, a site plan or an energy form. You receive the complete set, so a local engineer can review and stamp it without redrawing anything.
Does the plan come with a material list?
Yes. A preliminary material list is included, prepared from the same 14 sheet drawing set.
What foundation does it use?
A monolithic thickened edge slab on grade. If you need a crawlspace, piers or a basement, we can redraw the structural sheets.
Does it include electrical, plumbing and HVAC?
Yes. The electrical plan with legend and the plumbing and HVAC layouts are part of the 14 sheet set.
Is the loft a full second storey?
No. It is a sleeping loft open to the room below, under the high side of the roof, with its own plan sheet so it can be framed correctly.
Can I build it more than once?
One purchase covers one structure. Write to us for a multi build licence if you plan to repeat it.
How do I get the files?
The download link appears on screen the moment payment clears and is emailed to you as well. It does not expire.
